CEREC Same-Day Restorations
Beautiful, strong teeth in a single visit
Let’s face it, very few of us have perfect teeth, free of decay and fillings. You may have a visible filling or two in your own mouth, left from the excavation of decayed tooth structure. In many cases, those fillings are made of metal which fills the hole but leaves the tooth weakened and prone to breaking. Often people don’t like the appearance of their metal fillings and wish for something that appears more natural and attractive. CEREC is a system developed to replace these fillings and to restore and protect any tooth that is decayed, weakened, broken, etc. to its natural strength and beauty. Better yet, it’s done with all-ceramic materials that are tooth-colored in a single appointment!
Exam and Preparation for CEREC
First, Dr. Watts examines your teeth and determines the best material, color, and design for a CEREC restoration. It could be a simple filling, or a full crown, depending on how much healthy tooth structure is remaining. Dr. Watts always prefers to save as much of your natural, healthy tooth structure as possible and the CEREC system is ideal for this. The tooth is anesthetized and shaped for the CEREC restoration.
Then, your dentist takes an optical impression of the prepared tooth. Instead of filling a tray with impression material that you must hold in your mouth until it hardens, a special camera takes digital pictures of your tooth and 3D models of your teeth are created by the CEREC computer system.
Next, the CEREC software helps Dr. Watts create the restoration for your tooth. She will design the restoration to be comfortable in your bite and look attractive and natural. Our in-office milling machine will carve the crown Dr. Watts has designed out of a block of ceramic material in a shade that matches your teeth. You’ll be able to watch the process if you want! Within an hour, your all-ceramic, tooth-colored restoration is finished and ready to bond in place. After bonding, your bite is checked and the restoration is polished. You can return to your normal activities with no “temporary” crown or return trip necessary. All of this is done in a single appointment!
